On the nose, this has softened and closed in just a touch. It was seen as exceptional on release, but right now it’s not delivering as effortlessly as some of its neighbouring vintages. Silkily textured black fruits on the attack, it has charm in spades and is ready and willing to hold a conversation with you, if you'll devote it some time. After a few minutes in the glass, the aroma of damp roses at the close of day comes through, together with gentle smoky cedar edges and the salty tang of a black olive tapenade. It showcases the welcoming aspect of Sassicaia that has won it so many devoted fans over the past five decades.
