A pretty mix of upper and lower register aromas feature floral and slightly stemmy notes along with the more classic red and black berry fruit and spice notes that precede slightly somber and reserved medium full flavors that are delicious but clearly in need of more time to really reach their apogee. In fact, this is a backward '97 that is borderline grumpy today and if you're tempted to open a bottle, be sure to give it at least an hour of air, more if possible. In sum, a quality if not exceptional effort for the vintage.

Showing wonderfully: much better than the 1995 last year. More intensity on the nose than Echezeaux 1996: exotic, quite meaty. Dense generous palate with fine extraction. Damsons, touch of spice. Firm tannins. A vivacious Grands Echezeaux.
