The 2011 OV has turned out beautifully. Espresso, mocha, red plums, sweet spices, licorice and rose petals jump from the glass in an impeccable drop-dead gorgeous wine loaded with Oakville character. The aromatics are bright and precise, which gives the 2011 a level of aromatic lift that is beguiling. Some of that is the vintage, but the high amount of Cabernet Franc in the blend is also very much felt. Ideally the 2011 needs another year or two in bottle for the tannins to soften, but it is drop-dead gorgeous.

Mocha, espresso, rosemary and tobacco lead to a rich, voluptuous core of fruit in the 2011 OV. Firm tannins give the wine more than enough backbone to allow it to drink well for a number of years after release. Layers of spice-infused fruit wrap around the rich, sensual finish. There is little question the 2011 OV is one of the finest wines of the year. A superb showing by any measure, the OV will also best many of the top-tier wines in this vintage. The 2011 OV stands apart from previous editions of this wine in that it is predominantly Cabernet Franc. This is a dazzling effort. Wow!
