DELAWARE – September 13, 2021 – Acker kicked off the Fall 2021 auction season with an extraordinary two-day sale in Delaware on September 9th and 10th, realizing US$8.5 Million in sales, with 100% of the lots selling at an astonishing 182% above opening bids. An incredible 374 New World Records were set, nearly 30% of all qualifying lots in the entire sale, including 43 all-time highs for Domaine de la Romanee Conti and 15 for Coche-Dury, setting the bar high for the second half of 2021.

Burgundy dominated the Top Ten Lots, with DRC, Coche-Dury, and A. Rousseau claiming all but one of the Top Ten lots, making an exception for Chateau Petrus. DRC took first prize with a case of 2002 Romanee Conti at an impressive $298,800. DRC and Petrus tied for second place, with 12 bottles of 2001 DRC La Tache and 6 magnums of 1989 Petrus each fetching $80,925, with the 2001 La Tache a New World Record. Fourth place was won by four magnums of 1999 Rousseau Chambertin at $68,475, followed by 6 bottles of 1999 La Tache at $62,250, a New World Record. There was a 4-way tie at number 6, with 3 bottles 2001 DRC Romanee Conti, 12 bottles 2001 DRC Romanee St. Vivant, 10 bottles 2008 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne and 6 bottles of 2010 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne all selling for $59,760, including all-time highs for the 2001 DRC Romanee St. Vivant and the 2010 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne. DRC and Coche-Dury were back again to share the number ten spot with 2 bottles of 1999 DRC Romanee Conti, 12 bottles 2002 DRC Romanee St. Vivant and 10 bottles 2001 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne hammering down at $56,025, with more New World Records set by the Romanee St. Vivant and Corton Charlemagne again.

Six of the Top Ten Lots broke previous World Records, and more than 10% of the 374 New World Records set in Acker’s September Delaware auction were awarded to DRC, a stunning 43 New World Records in all. Among the record-setting bottles were 12 bottles of 2002 Echezeaux at $37,350, a jeroboam of 2005 Grands Echezeaux for $27,390, a magnum of 1990 La Tache capturing $39,840, two magnums of 1985 Richebourg ringing in at $52,290, 12 bottles of 2001 Romanee St. Vivant at $59,760, and a magnum of 2002 Montrachet sold for $32,370. Incredibly, some of the most iconic and frequently traded DRCs, 1990, 1999 and 2005 La Tache, all set New World Records (as did 1991, 1992, 1993, 2001 and 2011).

“I couldn’t ask for a more incredible start to the Fall season! The “Brilliant Burgundy Bacchanal” single cellar session sent bidders into a frenzy on Thursday for this special collection, thanks to outstanding provenance from the estate of a respected Bacchus Society member,” noted Acker Chairman John Kapon. “Friday’s “Open Season” also saw intense action from bidders across the globe. Demand is extremely strong everywhere - Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, Rhone, California, Italy, you name it! Don’t blink, because in two weeks we have another, even bigger auction to kick off the season in Hong Kong! It will be our lucky 88th auction in Hong Kong, expected to achieve an estimated HK$88 million! The Fall season is just starting!!!”

Acker’s auction season continues in Hong Kong on Friday September 24th & Saturday September 25th, followed by the monthly Acker Distilled spirits auction “live online” from New York on Tuesday September 28th. Acker is currently accepting wines for Fall auctions, with weekly web auctions closing every week and spirits auctions closing monthly. For more information, email info@ackerwines.com.
