"March On"
"LIVE ONLINE"

Spring is almost in the air, depending on where you’re living these days, and Acker is back with another, terrific, two-day auction in Delaware on March 11th and 12th! We’ve been pushing as hard as we can to keep delivering the finest and rarest wines to you, and we are on track to sell US$40 million in just the first quarter of the year! This sale, like every other, is brimming with nothing but the best, but four collections fit our featured forecast! We’re ready to warm things up on the auction block on night one in Lots 177-304, with some glorious, California wine sunshine from the likes of Colgin, Dunn, Screaming Eagle, and more! We’ve seen the Golden Phoenix grace these pages time and time again over the last few months, but he is reincarnated once more, like a thunderbolt from the hands of Zeus in Lots 305-406! Top Bordeaux is here in quantity and quality with prestigious parcels and more from Cheval Blanc, La Mission, Lafleur, Haut Brion, and Latour, before Domaine Leflaive, Krug, and Vega Sicilia wash it all down. Lots 751-802 offer up a unique opportunity as we finely focus on the two champions of Champagne’s Blanc de Blancs style: Salon and Delamotte, which come to us courtesy of a passionate, Champagne lover, who is the original owner of these wines and has kept them all professionally stored in London since purchase, making this selection as close to buying directly from the Champagne house! We must shine the spotlight on Lot 802, a super-lot of majestic proportions, boasting a luxurious lunch or dinner for six at the House of Salon, along with magnum cases of recently disgorged 1970 and 1983 Delamotte Collection, in addition to magnum cases of 2002, 2004, and 2006 Salon. We close out the sale with the last, but certainly not the least, consignor of the auction, as we bring you the Precise Collection of a Prominent Surgeon in Lots 806-1225! A great team player, he is always helping others along the way and will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this sale to charity, including a major charity that he founded, which provides free sports medicine care to inner city youth. We take a bounce on Bordeaux, led by cases of Cheval, Montrose, and more before vintage pairings from Lafite, Las Cases, and Margaux keep us going. DRC dominates the court before Lady Leroy looms large with beautiful bottles of Boudots and more. We pause for one bottle of 1978 Henri Jayer Echezeaux, before more of this ridiculous roster keep the game afloat, as Meo-Camuzet Cros Parantoux, and more keep spirits high. The Rhone then romps with the biggest names, as Guigal La Las, 1978 Chave and La Chapelle champion Syrah, before Krug magnums refresh us for iconic Italians like 2000 Monfortino and a more than 80 lots of California greatness from all the stars. We cannot wait to summon spring and see all these fabulous wines find roots in new homes at this stunning sale in Delaware on Thursday, March 11th and Friday, March 12th. You can enjoy enhanced searching and bidding at bidlive.ackerwines.com or via the Acker App.
Domaine-Direct Consignments
We must make mention of the raison d’être for this sale first, the eleven, exciting Domaine-direct consignments, in Lots 1196-1291! Rising star Thibaut Clerget of Domaine Clerget in Volnay starts things off with a generous collection comprised entirely of Jeroboams from the Cote de Beaune. Our old and trusted friend, François Labet of Chateau de la Tour in Clos Vougeot brings us a vertical of his old vine cuvée (100+ years old!), Hommage a Jean Morin. Ten lots from the storied Domaine de Montille come next, featuring large formats of Vosne Romanee Aux Malconsorts Cuvée Christiane and Pommard Rugiens Cuvée Hubert, the two wines named in honor of Etienne’s parents. Domaine Henri Gouges, which celebrated its 100th vintage in 2019, offers up some of Nuits St. Georges best, with a new, high density cuvée from their monopole Clos des Porrets’ century-old vines alongside rare Jeroboams and Methuselahs of Les St. Georges! Domaine Faiveley brings us gems from their nearly 200-year-old cellar, including a treasure bottle of 1923 Clos Vougeot and two vintages of rarest Musigny!
The large formats continue from another historic name, Domaine Joseph Drouhin, as Jeroboams of 2009 Les Petits Monts (only 6 made) and 2010 Grands Echezeaux (only 10 made) make for a serious stack. Two of Gevrey-Chambertin’s great names come next, with Domaine Duroché and Domaine Dugat-Py providing exclusive access to their minuscule productions of Griotte and Chambertin, respectively. Morey St. Denis magic from Hubert Lignier looms large with legendary, library releases of 1978, 1990, and 2015 Clos de la Roche. We venture over to Vosne Romanée with a marvelous horizontal of 2016s from Meo Camuzet along with magnums of 2006 Richebourg and 2005 Cros Parantoux! The grand finale of the Grande Fête comes from our great friend, the Comte Liger-Belair, who brings us tremendous trios of La Romanee spanning 2006 to 2010!!! All of these wines offer a unique opportunity to taste Burgundy direct from the cellars in which it was made, and it is a tremendous privilege to present this prestigious list of Burgundy’s best!

The Golden Phoenix Rises Again
Night one of this auction is anchored by none other than the Golden Phoenix in Lots 196-379. After unparalleled performances in Hong Kong, New York, and Hong Kong again - here he is now once more in New York, offering up a regal roster of young Burgundy this time around with Bordeaux and Rhone in case and parcel quantity, and a delightful smattering of Champagne, Italy, and Spain! All of the Golden Phoenix collection has come from professional storage, where most of these wines have been lying since being purchased on release. There are many great wines waiting to be uncovered and rediscovered among the 180-plus lots in this fantastic offering from the Golden Phoenix.
Bordeaux beckons as Cheval Blanc, Haut Brion, Le Pin, Petrus, and friends fan the flame for Cabernet and Merlot. This sale is about Burgundy, right? Find 1998 d’Auvenay and 1995 Roumier Bonnes Mares alongside legions of 1990s Domaine Leflaive ready to take your cellar to the next level. There is a diatribe of Dugat-Py and a generous quantity of Jadot for those looking for depth and breadth. The Rhone then regales us once again with big bottles of Chapoutier, Beaucastel Hommage, and Pegau Capo, before we cleanse the palate with full cases of 1990 Krug and 1995 Clos du Mesnil. The Golden Phoenix has risen yet again, and it is an honor and a pleasure to welcome back the collection of the Golden Phoenix, as significant a wine cellar as any you will find in the world today!!!

Mature Wonders
A duo of consignors brings us some mature wonders in Lots 652-796. We introduced wines from the Estate of Doctor James Tait Goodrich in our January Hong Kong sale, and it is a pleasure to welcome a second tranche of the wines from this true humanitarian and innovative surgeon who passed away last year. Dr. Goodrich began collecting in the 1970s while he and his wife Judy lived in California, later moving their wines to New York into a custom, temperature-controlled home cellar. It is an honor to represent the collection of this esteemed man who was renowned worldwide for his groundbreaking neurosurgical technique. This prestigious cellar provides well-aged Bordeaux like 1953 Cheval Blanc, 1961 Gruaud Larose, a case of 1983 Leoville Las Cases, and an Imperial of 1985 Mouton. 1985 was a great year for Burgundy and this rings true with Bachelet Charmes introducing several 1985 DRC Grand Crus and crowned by an outstanding, original cardboard case of 1985 Dujac Clos de la Roche — you don’t see a case like that too often! There are two bottles of 1969 Romanee Conti, Romanee Conti too! Dom Perignon back to 1961 refreshes us on our way to California where classic bottles of B.V. Private Reserve back to ’61, 1978 Diamond Creek, six lots of Heitz Martha’s back to 1967, and 1970s Ridge Eisele and Monte Bello make us Cali crazy!!! Rare stuff!!! This second installment is a testament to a lifetime of collecting and the shrewd eye of the wonderful Dr. Goodrich.
The second collector of this pair continues the trend of mature marvels, as this diligent collector returns to these pages starting with a splendid selection of serious Bordeaux with the spotlight on 1959 Haut Brion, a full case of 1955 Lafite, 1928 Latour, and 1950, 1961, and 1964 Petrus. Burgundy regals us with legends of the Côte, including 1948 Rousseau Chambertin, 1971 DRC Echezeaux and La Tache, 1959 La Tache, 1949 DRC Richebourg, 1980 Romanee Conti, and 1978 Ramonet Batard. We round out the celebration with 1975 Dom Perignon Rose magnum, 1961 Egon Muller Eiswein, and 1978 Giacosa Riserva. This is a cathedral of mature wine!!! What a delight to deliver these mature wonders from a worthy pair of profound collectors!

The Best of Burgundy for the Fête
This is, of course, the Grande Fête de Bourgogne so we’d be remiss not to call out other serious selections from this superlative region to be found elsewhere in the catalogue! There are luminous, large formats of Dujac including a Jeroboam of 1985 Clos St. Denis, with provenance that goes back to the Domaine! Dance the night away with DRC and find bottles of 1980 and 1995 La Tache, Jeroboams of 1996 La Tache, 1997 Romanee Conti and 1995 Romanee St. Vivant, in addition to several vintages of DRC Montrachet. White Burgundy is necessary to keep the party going, so stock up on magnums of Raveneau Les Clos, bottles of Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne, or an eye-catching cadre of luxurious Domaine Leflaive Montrachet, with over thirty lots back to 1993 of one of Burgundy’s rarest bottlings. We must make mention of a few other notable names to look out for— Leroy, Jayer, Rouget, Rousseau, and Ramonet cannot be left out of this fantastic Fête!

Fantastic Burgundy Courtesy of a Significant NY Collector
We can always rely upon this influential New York collector and his amazing cellar to sweeten every occasion up! This collector has been buying in quantity for decades and is considered New York wine royalty from those who know – or to anyone who gets to share a dinner with him. Impeccable conversation and company are his two “MO’s” – and the third is incredible wines. Time and time again, his cellar delivers, without question more reliably than the Post Office will this November! For the past two decades, the majority of these “newer” wines have been purchased on release; the other wines in his collection were purchased carefully from reliable auction consignments. I have tasted hundreds of bottles from this collection over the years and they always rise to the occasion. The seller felt it was time for some prudent fall pruning and you all are the lucky beneficiaries. Bid with confidence!
There are over one hundred and thirty scintillating lots on offer and we shine the spotlight on 1962 Bouchard Musigny magnum, 1996 La Tache magnums in OWC, 1993 DRC Richebourg, several lots of Clos de Tart large formats, a baker’s dozen lots of Dujac including a full case of 2008 Romanee St. Vivant, Faiveley Grand Crus in Jeroboam and sixteen lots of Roumier focusing on Bonnes Mares. Of particularly special note, are magnums from the dean of Burgundy, Henri Jayer, 1990 Echezeaux as well as 1980 and 1986 Cros Parantoux!!! A dozen lots of Drouhin continue the flow of fantastic Burgundy followed by 1969 Jean Gros Richebourg, 1996 Mugnier Musigny, a Jeroboam of 2005 Jadot Musigny, sixteen lots of Ponsot resplendent with numerous large formats, a Methuselah of 2001 DRC Montrachet as well as five lots each of Domaine Leflaive and Raveneau. WOW! All wines removed from a combination of professional storage and a large underground custom-built home cellar maintaining a constant 55 degrees at all times. This is a fantastic collection from a fantastic gentleman!

Burgundian at Heart
This New York gentleman has Burgundy in his blood. He has been going to Burgundy every year multiple times for more years than most of us have even been drinking the wines. He has even been there for harvest every year for well over a decade! The late 1990s and early 2000s were the origin of many seminal vintages in Burgundy that have greatly influenced its wine culture today as well as the launch of the modern auction era. Before we get into the core of his collection, our friend offers a few Bordeaux ambassadors such as 1982 La Mission, 1990 Lafite magnum and 2000 Latour double magnum as a prelude. Exquisite Burgundy delights with eight lots of Rousseau, 1999 La Romanee, 2001 Bachelet Charmes, 2000 DRC Assortment, 2002 Clos de Tart in bottle and magnum, several lots of lovely Leroy, 1996 Dujac Clos de la Roche, 2002 Fourrier Griottes, 1996 Roumier Amoureuses, 2002 Mugnier Amoureuses, parcels of Angerville Volnay, three vintages of Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne and full cases of 2004 Roulot Charmes and Perrieres amongst much more! What were once tomorrow’s legends are here today! All wines removed from professional storage and in outstanding condition.
